Skin & Gut

Skin is our largest organ

Meaning it filters out toxins and it regulates temperature, it secretes toxins through sweat, it has pain and pressure receptors that send messages to our nervous system. The skin can be a reflection of our internal health. It can definitely be a reflection to our gut/microbiome health as we have what is called the Gut Skin Axis.

The gut and skin are linked and work together to filter and protect. The gut and skin are made up of epithelial cells. When the barrier of the gut is compromised toxins, estrotoxins, and more leak through the gut lining back into the body/blood causing inflammation. When the barrier of the skin is compromised the same thing can happen, environmental toxins, skin care, makeup toxins can enter through the broken barrier. The gut has it's own microbiome like that of the skin. The skin has a microbiome, the armpits and behind the knees have a different population than that of the face. Like the gut the skin can also have a dysbiosis of microbiome on the skin.

How can you tell if you have gut dysbiosis?

Some signs that you may have a microbiome imbalance is:

  • Flatulence after eating

  • Bloating after eating

  • Diarrhea

  • Constipation

  • Ulcers

  • Irregular bowels

I'd love to chat if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.
